🠈  Iron County  🠊

Iron County is a 3,301 square mile county in Southern Utah with a 2010 population of just 46,163. The county was originally called Little Salt Lake Valley as the water in the region does not drain to the ocean. It was renamed Iron County after mineral deposits in the area.

The county seat is Parowan. The largest city is Cedar City which is home to Southern Utah University. Beaver County (to the North) split from Iron County in 1856.

The county sits on the transition of the Great Basin to the Colorado Plateau. The Western side of the county consists of dry rolling hills typical of the Great Basin and the Eastern Edge includes the other worldly scenery of Cedar Breaks and Kolob Canyon.
